Ningbo is a city in the northeast of the Zhejiang province on the east coast of China on the Hangzhou Bay near Shanghai (220 km), Hangzhou, Jiaxing, Shaoxing and Zhoushan. This vast area has more than 7.6 milion inhabitants. Ningbo is one of the oldest cities in China and one of the busiest ports in the world. Its history goes back 6.800 years to the Hemudu culture 4.800 BC. It also was an old trade city on the Silk Road. Ningbo and its hinterland (Putuoshan) are popular destinations for tourists.
